Seminar Topics:

Drs. Oswald and MacPhail are going to discuss the diagnosis and practical medical and surgical management of many common practical cancer-related issues that can be performed in your clinical practice. This course will present a practical approach to the diagnosis and management of these common issues using a combination of didactic and case-based teaching. 
 
 

Gastrointestinal

  • I’m seeing a dog with significant weight loss and diarrhea.  Cancer is on my differential diagnoses list. What do you think is the best way to obtain GI samples for diagnostic examination ?

  • I have a feline patient with intestinal signs and thick intestines. I’m not sure whether this cat has an inflammatory bowel disease or intestinal lymphoma.  How can I determine the underlying diagnosis ?

  • Or should I just treat with prednisolone ?

  • Which supportive treatments really help maintain GI function in patients undergoing chemotherapy or Palladia? Are they different across traditional chemo vs Palladia ?

  • I’ve got Cerenia, Entyce, Elura and Mirtaz in my hospital pharmacy.  How should I give these drugs when supporting GI function in my cancer patients ?

  • What is this new drug Canalevia-CA1 ?  Can I use Canalevia-CA1 as an anti-diarrheal outside of chemotherapy patients ?

The Island is 12 miles long and 5 miles wide and is widely acclaimed as one of the great sports and recreational destinations. Getting There

Airport

You can fly into Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport – SAV and drive about 45 minutes onto the Island.

Driving Direction from North or South

Take I-95 to Exit #8. Take Hwy 278 East for 25 miles towards Hilton Head Island. After crossing the Island bridge, continue on Business 278 to Palmetto Dunes, which is located on the left hand side 8 miles from the Island bridge. Make a left hand turn at traffic light into Palmetto Dunes, and after one mile you will arrive at a guard gate. State that you are a guest of the Omni Hilton Head Oceanfront Resort (formerly the Hilton Oceanfront Resort) and obtain a pass and continue. The Resort is located on the left side. No motorcycles permitted. There is also a regional airport, Hilton Head Island Airport – HXD serviced by several airlines.
