This seminar has been designed to present the most current information on the diagnosis and treatment of many cardiovascular and respiratory diseases that you are commonly asked to manage in your patients. The main emphasis of the seminars will be to give you practical information that you can readily utilize in your practice- along with providing information on the current treatments being offered at the referral centers. Drs. Johnson & Stern are internationally recognized experts in their fields and lecture extensively throughout the world. Both speakers work at very busy clinical practices. Because of their involvement with busy veterinary centers, these personable speakers approach clinical problems very practically. Physical examination and efficient diagnostic testing in animals with respiratory signs: Have you ever wondered where those abnormal sounds are coming from?  Dr. Johnson will focus on localizing and identifying abnormalities in the respiratory exam to allow rational diagnostic testing. Updates on brachycephalic syndrome and laryngeal disorders will also be discussed.

  • Coughing cats

  • How to manage chronic cough in the dog

  •  Recognition and Therapeutic approach to common arrhythmias

  • The cardiologist’s approach to thoracic radiography – is the VHS worthwhile?  What is the VLAS??

  • Approach to the asymptomatic heart murmur

  • Diet and Dilated Cardiomyopathy: update on diagnosis and management

  • Management Strategies for Congestive Heart Failure

  • Feline Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy – In The Thick of It

  • Pneumonia in dogs and cats

  • How does laryngeal dysfunction contribute to cough?

  • Treating Mitral Valve Degeneration in the Post-EPIC World

  • Pulmonary hypertension

  • Managing cardiopulmonary cases

  • Cardiopulmonary case challenge:  Abnormal breathing patterns and adventitious lung sounds can be found in animals with cardiac or pulmonary disease, and cough, tachypnea, and respiratory distress are common signs of disease associated with either condition.  Even the presence of a murmur does not always signify a cardiac etiology of disease, and radiographic changes of cardiomegaly or pulmonary infiltrates can obscure the underlying cause of the clinical presentation. Determining the primary disease process relies on a good history and physical examination and will be supported by radiographic findings and additional tests. The speakers have been asked  to present some of their most challenging cases to demonstrate how the experts work through these confusing cases.
