Dr. Maggs received his veterinary degree from the University of Melbourne, Australia in 1988 and then spent 5 years in mixed animal practices there and throughout Great Britain. He completed small animal and equine internships at Colorado State University and a comparative ophthalmology residency at the University of Missouri, where he remained on faculty before joining the University of California – Davis in December, 2000. He is the author of Slatter’s Fundamentals of Veterinary Ophthalmology, is on the editorial board of the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery, and is Chair of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists’ Credentials Committee. Dr. Maggs’ special interests include ophthalmic surgery and infectious ocular disease, particularly feline herpesvirus.
